Hello friends!
It's here, it's here!!! My favorite season of all! Autumn is finally here!
I've been so busy, not entirely sure what it is that I've been so busy doing, but it seems to have consumed far too much of my time.
I can't help being a little disappointed in myself putting many projects on-hold and have taken way too long to complete certain projects. I did do lots of projects and allowed myself to indulge in in art and creativity, I still feel I should have done more.(Being a perfectionist can completely interfere in productivity! There are definitely times when I wish I could just half-ass a project and call it good so I can move-on. You know, that is NOT me!) What am I gonna do about it? I'm not going to sit here and whine, that's for sure.
It's time to get real, look at the calendar, re-evaluate my priorities, focus and re-commit myself to reaching the goals I've set and make those things happen!
As much as I love this Fall season there's still a sadness seeing Summer disappear before my eyes, everything withers-up and dies, thankfully Autumn offers a bold, dramatic good-bye.
I'll leave you with some seasonal decor photos, of my front porch.
Enjoy!
Subtle copper details bring a polish and a little extra sparkle to a primitive honeysuckle vine. The copper, wire flower was created with simple wire from the hardware store, the copper bullion was purchased at a floral supplier. My honeysuckle vine was gathered from my parent's farm.
I love using found items like the honeysuckle. Even better yet, is the art of embellishing found items and transforming them into unexpected and overlooked treasures!
Most of the pumpkins are artificial with carved Jack-o-Lantern faces. I just turn them around 'til Halloween and get double use out of them!
My barn wood birdhouse was made for me by my adorable nephews! A carpentry project with grandpa during their 2011 summer vacation.
The apples (bottom left) and white, gourmet pumpkins started-out as sheets of green Styrofoam from a floral supplier (In this case, actually made mine from scraps of my carved celestial faces in my hypertufa project). I painted them with acrylic paint and used twigs for their stems.
The natural oak leaves were given a pop of color with Design Masters Color Tool Sprays, typically used in professional floral design (Design Masters paints are delicate enough to use on fresh flowers). These sprays are awesome and very versatile! You can find these at your local craft store in the floral section.
Although the caramel apples in the photo to the right are completely real, I HAVE in the past, made them using interesting, but very basic floral supplies (including Design Masters Color Tool Sprays. I am always looking at things and trying to find an unexpected use for them...it's not only intoxicating but addicting! Maybe I should put on a magic show for you!
I also a tucked-in a few little fresh pumpkins (behind the caramel apples) from my own garden!
There are some amazing, quality silks out there these days! You'll notice I mixed some silks in with dried materials, in doing so, I've come close to pulling-off designs that look fresh.
If you've steered clear of silks in the past, I encourage you to check-out the selection currently available and reconsider. These aren't your mother's silk flowers from the 70's!
Happy Fall!
"Night initiates the
exchange,
barters with Dawn for
another hour of our Summer’s sun.
The wind steals-away
what is left of our warm glow,
blown-away one more chance
to know you.
Counting days
anticipating just
when the sun will disappear.
No chance I might
brace myself for the blow,
or say "good-bye"
before you go.
I open my eyes
you’re no longer
here.
The season will have
changed
and you will have
faded
away
like you do
for another year."
